Behind The Work of “Waiting for Perfection”
The artwork explores the contrast between life and death through the representation of a flower and skeletal form, symbolizing the deceptive allure of online personas. It prompts reflection on the societal tendency to endlessly await an elusive ideal, whether in friendships, romance, or other aspects of virtual interaction. The piece highlights the futility of such pursuits, emphasizing the disconnection between perceived online perfection and the authentic reality. “Waiting for Perfection” encourages viewers to contemplate the value of time and genuine connections often overlooked in the pursuit of an unreal and unachievable digital utopia.
Behind The Story
Recent studies reveal a concerning trend where individuals become excessively engrossed in social media, often idealizing the notion of finding the perfect partner. This obsession with an idealized image of romance, perpetuated by social media platforms, can lead to unrealistic expectations and dissatisfaction in real-life relationships.
Consequently, many individuals who fixate on finding an elusive “perfect” partner through social media may end up disillusioned and ultimately face divorce. These studies shed light on the detrimental impact of social media on relationship dynamics and emphasize the importance of fostering genuine connections based on realistic expectations and mutual understanding, rather than pursuing an idealized fantasy perpetuated by online platforms.
3D Process
I utilized 3D software for compositing and rendering photo references for my drawing, a process that took around two days. It’s one of my first attempts at rigging a character, which allows me to pose them as desired. Initially, the skeleton held the flower bucket with its left hand, but after rendering, I flipped the image horizontally to ensure the skeleton presented the bucket with its right hand — a gesture symbolizing giving with the right hand, adding a thoughtful touch to the composition.
Drawing Process
This is the first artwork I made in 2024. Creating this artwork required approximately one week to complete. Despite its visual simplicity, the narrative it conveys holds substantial significance. Executed on an 82x132 cm paper, I utilized the scumbling technique to bring the drawing to life. This involved incorporating various shades of blue ink pigments alongside black pens of differing tip sizes. The process demanded meticulous attention to detail. Through the deliberate selection of materials and technique, I aimed to evoke a sense of depth and emotion within the piece, inviting viewers to engage with its story on a deeper level.
Display
The artwork was showcased at G13 Gallery on 2nd of March 2024, as part of my solo exhibition. I didn’t expect it to become one of the most liked pieces. Surprisingly, it was the first artwork reserved during the show.
